Warning, it’s difficult, and you may want to go back to bed now! Words have a huge impact on how we feel and how we feel has a huge impact on how we act. We challenge you to take the word “Can’t” out of your vocabulary, written, spoken or thought for the next 24 hours. That means you may not say, write or think: I can’t, you can’t, they can’t, or we can’t. The reason for this is simple and the result of this challenge is profound. The reason is, when we say “Can’t”, especially I Can’t, we have taken away the power of choice. When we replace the word “Can’t” with “I chose not to”, we view ourselves as a decision maker rather than a victim of circumstances. It always feels better when you think you have the power of choice. It’s even worse if you start the sentence with You Can’t. Instead of getting the cooperation you seek, you are inviting mutiny. Take the challenge and see what happens, I bet you will be surprised.
